barack and roll, part 2–why i support obama

This blog entry is my response to a message sent to me from one of my best friend’s from high school

>>>>>>This is what my friend wrote!

As a friend I truly hope you are not voting for obama. HE is openly racist against white people. It is one of the worst cases of nepotism I have seen in quite some time. If you think any of our previous presidents are bad or have done damage just wait until this guy gets into office. He has had several business that were pretty shady to say the least. His house in New york was a gift from a political backer. As sad as it is to say he might be worse than Hillary(who i believe to openly be a communist). If you are voting independent its not really that bad. If anything it could be good. Potentially it could separate the democratic vote down the middle.
Overall I guess it doesn’t really matter. I say this because I don’t believe our votes matter anymore. Joe Rogan put it the best when he compared voting to rooting for male wrestling…ie. the ultimate warrior vs. hogan etc…
Glad to see you are taking a stand, I am just wondering what your basis might be from one class president to another.

>>>>>MY RESPONSE

I will respond to your message in two parts, first, I will write a response to the allegations you made in your message to me, and second, I will make a case for Obama.

I really appreciate you challenging me on why I choose to support Barack Obama, and I am so glad that we can have a cordial discussion without shouting the other down (isn’t blogging grand). I am surprised at the allegations you have put forth against the candidate I choose to support. I feel that the nature in which you chose to communicate your distain for my candidate came straight from AM Talk radio or FOX NEWS. You have attacked his character and repeated things from his past that he does not deny. Instead of trying to convince you that you are wrong and I am right (which will get us no where), I will let you believe the things you wrote.

I would like to say that Racism, Nepotism, and “Shady Deals” are apart of life and I believe Barack Obama has experienced his fare share of all three.

First, Being that Obama is half black and half white I am sure he has grown up with something that only other bi-racial children understand (you and I who are both white and privileged, have no room to judge).

Next, Nepotism is something that has been enjoyed and indulged in by the elite in our society since our countries inception. And to say that he is a spoiled product of this is simply ludacris. To imply that he is the product of nepotism, is to imply that he lacks intelligence and is lazy. Barack Obama is more than intelligent and he is known for his hard work (even FOX NEWS gives him these). Stupid and lazy people don’t become the editors of law review at Harvard. Stupid and lazy people don’t practice law for the poorest of the poor. Stupid and lazy people don’t get an endorsement from Oprah ;) !

And finally “shady deals,” he doesn’t deny knowing these people, so at least he is honest about that (unlike Romney & Clinton), and how can a candidate monitor all of those who contribute to his campaign (he has over 250,000 donors), to imply that he should monitor his donors is again ludacris. And besides any money that he received from that Klesko guy he donated to charity.

Why I Support Obama!

Absolutely and with out a doubt I will support Obama. I am after supporting the candidate who will attempt to change the standard. (Are you better off than you were 8 years ago?) Obama’s open and honest approach to the economy, foreign policy, and social paradigms is why I support him above and beyond anyone else.

Let’s start with the economy, Obama believes in the middle class, since 2000 the middle class has been shrinking at a more rapid pace than it has in its 100 year history. All the while the richest 1% have accumulated a greater amount of wealth and resources than ever before in all of HUMAN HISTORY. Not only did Bush polarize politics, but he polarized the classes in this country as well. So how will Barack address this issue, two words “Tax Fairness.” click here for more info

Next is Foreign Policy. I don’t know if you have been following all the candidates, but everyone except Obama has been preaching more of the same. Not one candidate wants to challenge the house that Chenney and Rumsfeld built. Obama is the only one who is approaching this differently. He is doing this by being willing to be diplomatic with our “sworn” enemies. Also, in terms of ending the war in Iraq, he is the only candidate who has been willing to make that stand in this campaign. He has a plan to bring the troops home and follow up with a humanitarian initiative that trades funds for guns and bombs with funds for schools and roads.

Finally, Obama’s social paradigm is revolutionary on three levels. First, his platform on immigration is the most realistic (it is very similar to McCain), he even supports initiatives to promote economic development in Mexico (go figure, a politician addressing the problem at its foundation). Second, healthcare (this is important to us, because 20 somethings are one of the least insured group of americans), Obama plans to initiate a national healthcare plan for all americans that guarantees eligibility, and rivals the type of healthcare that is available to congress. Third, Obama began his work as a community organizer who represented the poorest on Chicago’s streets. With this perspective he will not ignore those in poverty. Time and time again he has brought attention to the impoverished in this country (of which a disproportionate amount are minorities), by including them and their interests in the policy that he has supported his entire professional career.
